Preamble

The Bastide du Jas de Bouffan, the Atelier des Lauves, and their grounds were designated as Monuments Historiques by decree on May 22, 1974 for the Atelier, and on March 8, 2001 for the Bastide. They are owned by the City of Aix-en-Provence, which manages them directly.

The City of Aix-en-Provence, as the owner of the sites, is responsible for their operation, restoration, conservation, and maintenance, as well as for the sale of individual tickets, whereas the Tourism Office manages the gift shop and handles the promotion and booking of group visits. The aim of opening these sites to the public is to promote universal awareness of the life and work of Paul Cézanne.
The purpose of the present regulations is to establish the conditions under which the public may access and behave within the two Sites de Cezanne (the Sites). They are intended to ensure the quality of the visit, the safety of persons and property, the preservation of the sites, and the protection of the collections.

ARTICLE 1: Scope of Application

Without prejudice to any specific provisions that may be communicated to them, these regulations apply to all indoor and outdoor areas of the Sites and to all persons, including those not affiliated with the company, particularly visitors to the site, whether physical or legal persons. The rules set forth in this document may also be communicated to individuals or groups authorized to use certain spaces within the premises for meetings, receptions, conferences, screenings, or other events, as well as to anyone present on the premises for professional reasons.

Any visitor who fails to comply with these rules and regulations or disturbs the peace may be denied entry to the to or removed from the premises without being entitled to a refund of their ticket. As a general rule, failure to comply with these rules and regulations may result in legal action.
The administration of the Sites de Cezanne and the enforcement of these regulations are carried out by the administrator of the Sites de Cezanne (the director of these establishments) and the designated managers of each Site. In the event of the absence or unavailability of these officials, these regulations may be enforced by the head of the security team and the public relations officer.

ARTICLE 2: Access to the Site

2.1 The main entrance to the Bastide du Jas de Bouffan site is located at 4 Route de Valcros, 13090 Aix-en-Provence.
The main entrance to the Atelier des Lauves is located at 13 Avenue Paul Cezanne, 13100 Aix-en-Provence.
Opening and closing dates and times to the public are determined by the City of Aix-en-Provence and are displayed at the entrance to the Sites and published on the website www.cezanne-en-provence.com. Visitors are encouraged to check these details prior to their visit using any available means: signage, advertisements, the internet, social media, brochures, etc.
These opening times may be changed by the Site administration for organisational, security, or in case of exceptional events.
The Sites and their grounds are temporarily open in 2026 and may be ponctlaly closed for safety reasons, due to weather conditions (particularly on windy days), or for special events. The site is open:

• from july 4 to september 30 from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM;
• from October 1st to October 31st 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

2.2 Last entry and ticket purchasing will close 30 minutes before the sites close. No access will be permitted after the ticket offices close. Same-day tickets will be sold only while supplies last, regardless of the ticket and price type. One hour before the site closes, no tickets for the day will be issued.
Visitors are asked to proceed to the site exit 15 minutes before the closing time.

2.3 Access to the Sites throughout the grounds and within each area is limited to the maximum capacity defined by the Safety Commission of the Bouches-du-Rhône Prefecture. As a result, queues may be organized both inside and outside the sites, at the discretion of the reception and safety and security teams, to ensure visitors have a pleasant and safe visit.

2.4 In the event of a delayed exit or during events taking place outside the site’s regular opening hours, visitors are not guaranteed the ability to make purchases in the gift shop.

ARTICLE 3: Issuance and validity of entrance tickets

3.1 The entry and circulation within the Sites during public opening hours are subject to possession of a valid admission ticket.

3.2 Admission to the parks is subject to a fee, but free admission may be available depending on the time of year and applicable conditions. In some cases, prior reservation may be required, including for free admissions or exceptional events..

Access to the historic monuments or temporary exhibitions requires the purchase of a ticket. Each ticket is valid for a single site, at a specific date and time. Regardless of the type of admission ticket held (individual ticket, e-ticket, City Pass, partnership or group ticket), all visitors must have a valid time slot. Without a reserved time slot, access to the monument will not be permitted. Visitors must present themselves at the entrance checkpoint with their admission ticket mentioning the assigned date and time slot.

Access to certain events held on site may require the prior purchase of a ticket.
These tickets do not necessarily give access to the entire park or to other areas of the site outside the zone specifically designated for the event.
Visitors are encouraged to visit the website www.cezanne-en-provence.com for complete information regarding access conditions, authorized areas, and the specific terms and conditions for each event.

3.3 The list of admission options (individual rates, group rates, and free admission) is posted at the entrance to the Sites and can be found on the website www.cezanne-en-provence.com

3.4 Admission fees, as well as the conditions under which certain visitors may qualify for free admission or a reduced rate, have been established in accordance with the guidelines set by the City of Aix-en-Provence. Purchasing an admission ticket during the last hour or half-hour of ticket office hours does not entitle the purchaser to a discount on the admission price.

3.5 Any exit from the historical monuments (Bastide or pavilion des Lauves) is final. Tickets will no longer be valid for re-entry.

3.6 Visitors benefiting from a discount or free admission must present valid proof of eligibility at the ticket office at the time of their visit. The applicable cases are displayed onsite and on the website. Failure to present such proof will result in denial of access to the Sites.

3.7 Tickets issued are neither exchangeable nor refundable, even if proof is presented that would have justified the application of a different rate.

3.8 Any resale of admission tickets without the prior and express authorization of management is strictly prohibited.

3.9 The Sites de Cezanne reserve the right to offer a later time slot or to refuse entry to visitors in the event of large numbers of visitors, and cannot be held responsible for any significant wait times that may result. Only the purchase of a ticket for a specific time slot guarantees access to the site.

3.10 In the event of overcrowding, disturbances, strikes, or any other situation that could jeopardize the safety of people or property, the site may be closed in whole or in part at any time of the day, or opening hours may be changed.

3.11 Visitors must keep their tickets with them at all times during their visit, as they may be asked to present their admission tickets in the outdoor areas of the sites and inside their exhibition halls / throughout the entire site.

3.12 The closure of certain exhibition rooms and/or the missing of a part of the permanent collections does not entitle visitors to a full or partial refund of the admission ticket.

3.13 The general terms and conditions of sale for tickets are available on the website and at the onsite ticket office.

ARTICLE 4: Areas Open to the Public

4.1 The areas of the Bastide du Jas de Bouffan and the Atelier des Lauves are open to the public, with the exception of those marked with specific signs or those closed to the public. Visitors without authorization are prohibited from entering areas that are not open to the public. Visitors are prohibited from remaining without authorisation on the premises (historic monuments and parks) outside of their opening hours to the public, in accordance with the provisions of Article R 645-13 of the Penal Code.

4.2 The Sites de Cezanne reserve the right to modify the tour route or take any necessary measures, including the total or partial closure of access points or the monitoring of exits, for safety or security reasons or for any other exceptional circumstances.
This temporary modification of the tour route does not entitle visitors to a refund of their ticket or a discount, unless otherwise decided by the site manager.

ARTICLE 5 : Restrictions d’accès au site

5.1 Minors under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult guardian. Those over the age of 16 are permitted to enter unaccompanied, provided they have a ticket and present a valid form of identification. Minors remain under the supervision and responsibility of their parents or guardians. These adults must ensure that children do not damage the facilities, collections, or the site (historic monuments and parks).
Adults accompanying minors are responsible for their behavior in accordance with Article 1384 of the Civil Code.

5.2 The Sites de Cezanne premises being subject to a maximum capacity limit set by a safety commission, the site manager may be required to regulate access during periods of high visitor numbers.

5.3 Pets are forbidden inside the historical buildings and must be kept on a leash in the parks. However, guide dogs and service dogs accompanying individuals with a disability card are permitted without restriction inside the monuments.

5.4 Staff may refuse entry to visitors:

• who are dressed inappropriately or in a manner that violates hygiene rules, such as those who are shirtless, wearing swimwear, barefoot, etc.;
• who, due to their behavior, pose a danger to the site, to themselves, or to others;
• who refuse to undergo the Vigipirate security screening in effect at the site;
• who arrive with luggage that is too large (exceeding 55 × 40 × 20 cm).

ARTICLE 6: General Conduct of Visitors

6.1 Visitors are required to behave with the utmost courtesy toward both staff and any other persons present on the premises.
Any threats, violence, assault, verbal abuse, harassment, defamation, or other offensive conduct directed toward staff while they are performing their duties may result in legal action and immediate expulsion without refund.
In general, visitors are liable for any and all damages they may cause, whether directly or through persons for whom they are responsible, or through objects in their care or custody.

6.2 Any activity that may harm the proper preservation of the Sites, their surroundings, or their collections; disturb the tranquility of others; or impair the quality of the visitor experience, as well as any behavior contrary to public order, is prohibited. Such behavior may result in immediate removal from the Sites without a refund.

In particular, it is prohibited to:

• smoke or vape anywhere on the premises, including outdoor areas;
• walk, sit, or lie down on the meadows and lawns;
• run, climb, sit on, or climb onto walls and statues;
• intentionally steal, destroy, damage, or deface any property, movable or immovable, in accordance with the provisions of Articles 311-4-2 and 322-2 of the Penal Code;
• touch, sit on, or lean against the exhibits and historical decorations;
• Move furniture on display or in use without prior authorization. Individual exemptions may be granted (in advance and on an exceptional basis) by the site manager for blind, visually impaired, or disabled individuals.
• Open or close doors and windows except as required for personal safety.
• Point at the works (statues, frescoes, wallpaper, plasterwork, paintings, etc.) with objects that could damage them: pencils or other writing instruments, canes, objects of any kind used by guides to lead their groups, etc.
• Draw or place graffiti or any other markings defacing the sites;
• Picnic within the premises (unless expressly authorized by the site manager); visitors and staff must store food and drink in a sealed bag of permitted size;
• cross protective barriers, move signage or safety barriers, or tamper with safety devices without a valid reason;
• display banners or flags of any kind;
• put up posters or portable signs, or affix them to the walls and fences surrounding the site, unless prior written permission has been obtained from the site manager;
• conduct collections within the premises or engage in any commercial activity, advertising, or surveys without permission from the site manager;
• engage in any form of propaganda or solicitation;
• distribute or sell printed materials, newspapers, badges, or any other items without prior written permission;
• fail to respect queues out of consideration for other visitors;
• lie down on benches or on the ground;
• hold political or religious gatherings;
• engage in religious proselytising or practise a religion within the premises;
• spit, urinate, or defecate within the premises;
• use metal detectors;
• enter the premises under the influence of alcohol or narcotics, or consume them within the premises;
• dispose of waste outside of waste bins;
• engage in noisy activities or use audio equipment in a manner that disturbs the peace and quiet of visitors (telephones and other electronic/audio/video devices, etc.)
• disturb visits and obstruct circulation of visitors in any way;
• engage in games that disturb the public tranquility;
• use selfie sticks;
• bring in and use drones without authorisation;
• collect, pick or pluck any plants;
• use personal transceivers.

In addition, any equipment made available to visitors during their visit (screens, audiovisual devices, etc.) must be used under normal conditions. Tablets and audioguides provided during the tour must be used with care and returned in good working order at the end of the visit. The use of tablets and audio guides by children is the responsibility of their parents or guardians. The City of Aix-en-Provence reserves the right to charge up to €600 per damaged device for any damage to the equipment.

ARTICLE 7: Safety of Persons and Property and Visitor Comfort

7.1 To ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors, it is prohibited to bring onto the sites any objects that, by their intended use or characteristics, pose a risk to the safety of persons or the security of property, works of art, and buildings, including:

• weapons and ammunition of any kind;
• dangerous, foul-smelling, excessively heavy, or bulky items;
• explosive, flammable, or volatile substances;
• illegal goods;
• any sharp or blunt objects;
• any glass objects;
• umbrellas (unless they can be folded and fit inside a handbag and are not wet)
• shopping bags
• motorcycle helmets
• camera tripods or lights
• musical instruments
• replicas and casts of works of art
• flowers and other plants
• food
• beverages: water bottles, water bottles, thermos flasks, etc.
• any other container or bulky item (large backpacks, helmets, balls, hiking-style baby carriers, etc.) that could hinder an emergency evacuation or damage the wall decorations and exhibited works through friction or collision.

For safety reasons and to prevent any serious damage, the following items must not be left in the cloakroom:

• cash, securities, and identification documents
• checkbooks and credit cards
• valuables, including jewelry and cameras
• fragile items

Visitors carrying suitcases or other bulky bags, briefcases, towels, folders, luggage, or packages larger than 55 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm, will be denied entry to the site. If a visitor is carrying a small backpack, they must wear it in front of them or carry it by hand.

Site staff may ask visitors to open their bags, with their consent, for a visual inspection. They may refuse to allow items that they deem incompatible with safety and security requirements. Staff are not permitted to store visitors’ luggage or personal belongings during visits. Strollers, helmets, scooters, rollerblades, skateboards, bags containing items, and bottles must be left in the lockers.

7.2 All forms of personal transportation, such as roller skates, rollerblades, scooters, unicycles, skateboards, and bicycles, are prohibited within the premises, even when carried by hand.

7.3 Any accident, medical emergency, or unusual incident must be reported immediately to staff members onsite.
To prevent any risk of complications, visitors must under no circumstances give a sick or injured person anything to drink or administer any medication before emergency services arrive.

7.4 Any lost child is entrusted to a member of the security staff, who will take the child to the site’s front desk. If the lost child has not been reunited with their family by the time the site closes, they will be taken to the nearest police station, namely the Aix-en-Provence Police Station, 10 Avenue de l’Europe, 13090 Aix-en-Provence.

7.5 If site staff issue an order to evacuate the Bastide and/or the Jas de Bouffan park or the Atelier des Lauves, non-staff members, including visitors, must comply in an orderly and disciplined manner, under the direction of the site staff and evacuation coordinators, in accordance with the instructions given by the latter.

7.6 In accordance with Article R642-1 of the Penal Code, everyone is required to assist site staff when the cooperation of visitors is requested by the competent administrative authority.

7.7 Visitors, without exception, are required to comply with the Vigipirate security checks in effect at the sites. In monuments without designated storage areas, the storage of luggage, strollers, or prohibited items (knives, bottles of alcohol, etc.) is prohibited. If luggage is left at the entrance to the sites, visitors risk having it destroyed immediately by law enforcement and facing a fixed fine of €5,000. Visitors are asked to report any unusual objects whose owner cannot be identified to a reception or security staff member.

7.8 Members of the public are prohibited from tampering with anti-theft alarm systems and emergency equipment (fire extinguishers, fire alarm panels, etc.) without a compelling reason.

7.9 Access to the sites is subject to Law No. 2010-1192 of October 11, 2010, which prohibits the concealment of the face in public spaces.

7.10 In the event of an attempted theft or malicious act damaging the building or the works on the sites, alarm systems may be activated, involving, in particular, the closure of access points and the monitoring of exits. Visitors who witness such malicious acts must immediately report any incident or unusual event to the nearest staff member.

ARTICLE 8: Groups

1. General Provisions

8.1.1 A group consists of a minimum of 10 people and a maximum of 19 people.

8.1.2 For groups, reservations are required for a specific date and time agreed upon in advance. Group visits are subject to mandatory reservations made at least 30 days in advance (unless otherwise agreed upon by the site manager), subject to availability. For groups arriving without a reservation, access to the site can only be guaranteed subject to sufficient capacity and under individual pricing conditions. A group may also be denied entry if the number of participants does not comply with safety standards, or if the number of accompanying adults—particularly for groups consisting of minors—does not comply with regulations in force.

At the time of booking, you may be asked to divide your group into smaller groups for the tour due to safety concerns related to the capacity of the site.

Upon arrival at the site, the group leader must present the signed contract and the pre-filled visit form. The ticket desk will verify these documents. At the Bastide du Jas de Bouffan, groups and their accompanying guides are required to use the headsets provided at the ticket desk.

8.1.3 The site administrator may at any time restrict the standard terms and conditions for group access and visits, based in particular on capacity limits and technical or security constraints.

8.1.4 Group visits are conducted under the supervision of a group leader who ensures that group members comply with the provisions of these regulations.

8.1.5 When not conducted independently, visits are led by a site staff member, a qualified person as defined by the provisions of the Tourism Code, or any individual previously authorised by the site manager. Site staff may conduct checks at any time during the visit to verify the qualifications of those speaking in public, compliance with the rules applicable to group visits, and adherence to schedules and allotted times, including the departure time of the visits and the authorized duration of stay in the rooms.
Failure to comply with these rules may result in the interruption of the visit, removal from the site without a refund, and a ban on booking another group tour.

8.1.6 The use of amplified sound systems (megaphones, amplified headsets, etc.) to guide groups is not permitted.

2. School Groups

8.2 School groups must be supervised by at least:

• for elementary schools, two adults, including the classroom teacher, regardless of class size;
• for groups of more than 30 students, one additional adult is required for every 15 students.

Extracurricular groups must be supervised by:

• one adult for every 10 children under the age of 6;
• one adult for every 14 children aged 6 or older;
• one adult for every 10 children in mixed-age groups consisting of children under 6 and over 6.

Extracurricular groups must be supervised by:

• one adult for every 8 children under the age of 6;
• one adult for every 12 children aged 6 or older;
• one adult for every 8 children in mixed groups consisting of children under 6 and over 6.

The chaperones of these groups must maintain constant visual contact with the children in their care. They may guide their groups around the site on their own.

ARTICLE 9: Lost and Found

9.1 Any lost or found items must be reported to the security staff onsite.
Any items not claimed before the site closes will be kept onsite (provided they do not pose a hazard) for 30 days. After this period, they will be automatically recycled.

9.2 Valuables or items containing personal data (ID cards, health insurance cards, hard drives, computers, phones, etc.) will be turned over to the Municipal Police the following day. The City of Aix-en-Provence assumes no responsibility for these items and cannot be held liable for theft or damage. Users are advised not to leave their personal belongings unattended.

ARTICLE 10: Photography, Recording, and Image Rights

10.1 Personal photography is permitted provided it does not violate copyright protection provisions. Photographs must be for the visitor’s personal use only and for private purposes. Visitors may share their photographs on the internet and social media in accordance with applicable law.
The Jas de Bouffan estate and the Atelier des Lauves reserve the right to temporarily prohibit all photography.

10.2 The use of flash photography is prohibited in the exhibition rooms, unless prior authorisation has been obtained from the site manager.

10.3 Photography must be conducted without causing any disturbance to other visitors and in accordance with the instructions provided.

10.4 Photography or film shoots requiring the use of a tripod, special lighting equipment, or drones, as well as professional photography, film shoots, and radio or television recordings, may be allowed upon request, subject to conditions set by the site manager. Such activities are subject to prior approval by the City of Aix-en-Provence. Any recording, photography, or sound recording involving site staff or the public requires the written consent of the individuals concerned.

10.5 The making of copies of works from the sites also requires the express authorization of the City of Aix-en-Provence. Beneficiaries are required to comply with applicable regulations and any specific instructions provided to them, particularly regarding the protection of the public image of the sites, maintaining order, and any reproduction rights.

10.6 The City of Aix-en-Provence shall not be held liable to any third party in the event of a breach of these provisions.

10.7 It is prohibited to photograph or film technical installations and equipment. Filming within the premises of the sites must be governed by a filming agreement completed in advance.

ARTICLE 11: Complaints, contacting us

Visitors may submit comments, suggestions, and complaints in the guestbook provided at the reception desk of each site or via a form provided for this purpose at the ticket office of each site.

ARTICLE 12: Enforcement of the Visitor Regulations

12.1 The site manager and staff are responsible for enforcing these regulations, which are made available to the public via posted notices or upon request at the site entrance, as well as through the website www.cezanne-en-provence.com. Entry to the sites constitutes acceptance of these regulations.

12.2 Failure to comply with these regulations may result in the visitor being removed from the sites and, where applicable, in claims for compensation and legal proceedings as provided for in Article R. 610-5 of the Penal Code. Such removal takes effect immediately and does not entitle the visitor to any refund or compensation.

12.3 All rules set forth herein also apply when spaces are privatised, with the exception of the sections titled “Access to the Site” and “Issuance and Validity of Admission Tickets.” However, in such cases, access to the sites is granted only upon presentation of an invitation, verified against a guest list.

12.4 Law enforcement officers are authorised to be present onsite and, if necessary, to issue citations for offences and ask the offenders to prove their identity.
